Erik Quinn: The Heart of a Family: Special

Special

My boy is special
because of the strange x-ray vision he has
that allows him to delight in the faces of angels
on the people around us
when I can only see hardness and cruelty,
no matter how hard I try.

I am blind, but he can see.

My boy is special
because he clings tightly to me like an extension of my body
to the sound of planes rumbling and heavy above us in the sky,
making me feel as if I am twelve feet tall and made of steel.

My boy is special
because his voice cuts through the garbage made of
politics, pain, hate, and sadness,
leaving nothing behind but fresh, surprised smiles.

My boy is special
because his innocence is permanent,
forever altering the way he interprets his surroundings
in a foreign world I will never fully understand
but catch glimpses of through the starbursts in his eyes.

My boy is special
because he will need to be twice as strong as I ever was
to make it in this world.

Even in the midst of thousands of angels.

You've gotta write that book someday...and maybe there'd be a place for these amazing poems you are SO gifted at writing. Wow, Nancy. Thanks so much for sharing that. I loved it :)

Your boy is special,
because he is loved deeply by those he will probably never meet,
he is held in our hearts but held in your hands.
You are special,
because you will always be a 12ft tower of strength when life is hard, you will always be an ear when no others will listen,
You are special, because you will always be the hero of a special little boy, with nothing but admiration for you in his blue starry eyes.

My friend is special
Because through the pain
And all the work it takes to be
This Mom
She still cherishes the gift
She was given

And thanks for the candle! :)

My daughter is special
because her strength allows her to take chances
to let her son move in the midst of people
who sometimes are harsh and cruel
and lets him soak in the light of the faces of angels

She is willing to take the chance.

My daughter is special
because she is a rock, an anchor that doesn’t falter
when her son clings tightly to her.
She recognizes her terrifying role and embraces it.

My daughter is special
because she hears the lovely voice of her son
through the garbage made of a world of pain, cruelty and sadness,
even though it would be easier to hear the garbage.

My daughter is special
because she forever lost her innocence
in a foreign world that never will look the same,
but can find the joy in the face of her son reflected all around her.

My daughter is special
because she is building a beautiful life
for her son, better than any of us could ever imagine.

She is the most special of all
of the thousands of angels.

Love, Mom
